Not to give into the social conspiracy theories surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI, but it's hard to ignore the literal signs when you see something as tactically placed as Rockstar's latest Twitter/X post. The last time we got a hint at GTA 6 was during an interview back in May, when Strauss Zelnick said that the people at Rockstar "Seek nothing short of perfection, and we'll get there." But now, let's dig into it and see what we've got.
Not even 24 hours ago (at the time of writing), Rockstar posted an apparently simple image of two characters sitting in front of the famous Vinewood sign. The company's message was simply, "Happy Moon Festival!" referring to the upcoming Halloween holiday.
It got more than 4.3 million views in this short time window. Obviously, people couldn't leave it at that, and all sorts of conspiracy theories have risen. Some even say we should expect an announcement in October based on some ridiculous stuff. It's like when people started seeing the Virgin Mary everywhere a while back.
The first and most obvious sign is the "VI" on the left side of the image, which is no slip or mistake on Rockstar's part. They knew exactly what they were doing when they posted this. Now, whether they are genuinely teasing the imminent release or if this is just trolling on their part, it's an entirely different discussion.
The best conspiracy theory so far is that on October 6, we'll see some form of announcement. How did the person get to that, you ask? Well, they connected the "VI" from the Vinewood sign with the radio tower and Moon as "10" or the tenth month.
Others are already simulating the position of the Moon from the image and cross-referencing it to the real-life Moon to see when their positioning would overlap. It's a far reach, but how funny would it be if these were true and we'd get a trailer in October?
Another great one is the fluffy bunny rabbit-looking thing on the characters' teashirts. Apparently, its ears line perfectly in the shape of a "V," with the carrot being a "one," forming yet another "VI." But it doesn't end there! If you pay close attention, you'll also notice the six hearts on its feet...
Someone else saw a strawberry outline painted on the back of the "I" from the Vinewood sign and asked when the strawberry season starts in the United States. Others are seeing a face on the surface of the Moon, but that's a far reach, even for tin foil hat people.
No matter the truth, it's hilarious to see how the never-ending Grand Theft Auto phenomenon continues to affect and inspire people in such a manner. I shudder to think about what will happen to the Internet when an actual GTA VI trailer finally hits.
