Word has it General Motors is working on a new crossover utility vehicle that will be sold with GMC badges on its front grille and rear end. The new crossover is reportedly smaller than the Terrain and could share the same platform as the new Buick Encore, Car Buzz reports.
Little is known about the vehicle at the time of writing, but our source claims General Motors’ new crossover could be based on the GMC Granite concept that was introduced at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The Granite concept is actually a compact MPV that’s powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine rated at 138 HP and 148 lb-ft of torque, with power sent to the wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
If this proves to be more than just a rumor, the new crossover will GMC’s smallest offering yet. The GM-owned brand is currently selling two crossovers - the Acadia and the Terrain.
