There's a reason you can't challenge the establishment, and that is because the are well… established. Yet that has never stopped regular automakers from trying to make better cars than BMW and Mercedes.

Nissan established the Infiniti brand back in 1989. Unlike Lexus, their cars aren't sold in Japan and are rebranded as Nissans. The company came this close to being shut down, but is still limping on, and their first interesting car in a long time made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

It's called the Q50 and it replaces the G-series models, adopting a new naming system in the process. Under this system, all the sedans and coupes will be names starting with a Q. The Q50 relics the G sedan, the Q60 is the new name given to the G Sports Coupe and Convertible and the M sedan is now known as an M.

The company has promised four new modes within the next four years, and one of the first will be this, the Q60 coupe. Based on the same platform as the Q50 sedan, it will also borrow its engines, specifically a V6, a hybrid V6 and even the upcoming turbo-four.
