All-electric vehicles have become a real trend, especially for Japanese automakers. And as Nissan is developing the “Leaf” project, it was only natural that Infiniti would get an all-electric vehicle soon. Nissan Motor CEO Carlos Ghosn revealed the plan for the Infiniti model during the Tokyo Motor Show in October, calling it "a compact, high-performance, four-seat luxury Infiniti with zero emissions," as reported by autonews.com.
“An all-electric luxury model under development for Infiniti will lend itself to the performance image that Infiniti managers have been carefully honing for the past several years,” said the brand's North American sales boss.
"You can really turn up the performance of those things," says Ben Poore, Infiniti Business Unit vice president. "The model will fit perfectly with the performance standards that we've set for the brand. It's going to be a very cool vehicle."
Further details are not available now. All Mr Poore added is that the new all-electric Infiniti will be a new global model and it will be sold in the United States. Until this vehicle is unveiled, Infiniti has a busy schedule. Next month, at Los Angeles, the Japanese will present its new 2011 Infiniti M model, which they claim to have more standard horsepower than competitors from Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
This fits into Infiniti’s strategy to compete directly against European brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi.
