Tesla is considered a luxury carmaker, although many people complained about the lackluster build quality. The EV maker apparently wants to prove that it's on the same level as supercar builders with a $2 million Model Y sold from inventory. Believe it or not, this is down from $2.2 million, so you better hurry.
Tesla's status as a luxury carmaker has been often contested, especially as the build quality doesn't quite impress. Many complained about misaligned body panels, cracked windows, and paint issues, although this speaks more about build quality than luxury features. Tesla EVs have many gadgets as standard, but many established luxury features are still missing. The level of personalization on offer is also abysmal, something that people with deep pockets hate.

Performance-wise, Teslas shine among their peers with impressive power figures. This allows performance that costs many times more on other car brands, and many people aren't shy to call this "supercar performance." Nevertheless, Tesla EVs have become more affordable in the past months, as the EV maker has repeatedly slashed prices to energize sales. They're now quite affordable, and in many cases, they offer the best bang for the money, even when compared to ICE vehicles.

Tesla offers significant discounts for vehicles in the inventory, and it's always a good idea to search there first when buying an electric car. But the inventory prices are not always the best, as a curious example we've stumbled upon shows. In an Eastern European country called Romania, Tesla tries to convince people that a Model Y Long Range is a good deal at 1.9 million euros ($2 million). And it should be, considering that the original price was 2 million euros or more than $2.2 million.

If you feel a Tesla Model Y deserves all this money because it's such a good car, I'm right with you. Also, if you're a billionaire and money doesn't matter, hit the "Buy Now" button. Still, the simple fact that you can order the same car for 54,220 euros (worth $57,830 at current exchange rates) from the same website shows that a mistake must have been made. Tesla Model Y may be the most sold car in the world, but it's clearly not worth paying $2 million for it.

Most likely, this is owed to a currency conversion glitch, proving that salespeople at Tesla Romania are not exactly the brightest on the lot. It's happened before, and it will likely happen again. In January, Tesla listed all its vehicles sold in Romania at absurd prices, with the most affordable model, the Model 3 RWD, costing €228,840 ($242,394). It turned out that Tesla listed the prices in local currency and added the euro symbol.

This time, the conversion doesn't add up because a Tesla Model Y LR only costs 270,000 RON in local currency. This is far from $2 million, and it's unlikely somebody would jump the gun and hand over the cash briefcase to Tesla. Especially as the Model Y listed doesn't feature any extras.
