Hyundai to Sponsor 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup

The successful involvement of South Korean manufacturer Hyundai with this year's FIFA World Cup made the managers of the company try and get more exposure from what is certainly the most watched sporting event in the world every four years.

The carmaker announced today it will continue to be a soccer partner for two more events, the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup. As a result, Hyundai will again be named Automotive Official Partner of the events.

“Since our first association with FIFA in 1999, our commitment and support for FIFA has been unrivalled,” said Mong-Koo Chung, Hyundai Motor Group CEO.

“FIFA has always set a benchmark for us, pushing our brand value and exposure to the highest levels. Although the extension of the agreement has been made without the knowledge of the host countries for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup tournaments, we are confident this renewal will further enhance our business values and corporate vision.”

So far, the carmaker took its lion share from the sport, having sponsored the 2002, 2006 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. From the time when the current contract expires (2014) and all the way through 2022, Hyundai will supply all the official vehicles for FIFA events.

“Hyundai is a true football partner who understands, and shares our philosophy and passion for the beautiful game of football. FIFA is confident Hyundai will continue to support us in developing the sport, and further extending its reach around the world through its dedicated commitment to the game,”
added FIFA's president Joseph Blatter.
