The water pump on your Toyota VVTi unit recirculates the cooling fluid through the engine and radiator to keep the system at a certain temperature. However, impurities and and other deposits will eventually make it run inefficiently after a while, so you’ll have to replace it.
In order to perform the operation, you’ll need a 10 mm socket ratchet and the brand new replacement pump according to your engine. Here’s how to do it:

- Locate the water pump according to the video bellow
- Loosen the drive belt by unscrewing the tensioner’s bolt a bit
- Remove the 6 bolts that hold the pump attached to the engine
- Take out the pump and its rubber seal
- Carefully put the new seal and pump in place and secure the assembly with new bolts
- Put the belt back and tighten the tensioner.
