A 2006 Lexus IS owner posted a question on Road & Track, asking how can he override the vehicle’s traction control. Why would you do that? Maybe to climb a steep icy driveway for example.
The traction control system on modern vehicles detects wheel slip and cuts the power to the affected wheel(s) in order to regain traction and control. However, the older systems might glitch and wont let your vehicle go up an icy ramp by cutting the power sent to the wheels to much.
Modern vehicles come with a traction control deactivation button but the 2006 IS model has nothing like that. There is a way though, but requires a bit more work as the guys over at Road & Track show. Here are the steps:

Modern vehicles come with a traction control deactivation button but the 2006 IS model has nothing like that. There is a way though, but requires a bit more work as the guys over at Road & Track show. Here are the steps:
- Activate the parking brake and keep the brake pedal depressed
- Start the engine
- Pump the brake pedal twice
- Hold the pedal brake down then release and engage the parking brake twice
- Pump the brake pedal two more times
- The traction-control light should come on, meaning that the system has been deactivated.
