Land Rover recently put on a monster show on the USS Enterprise to showcase its Discovery Vision Concept and now the carmaker has released a video showing how all the new tech on the car helps create the offroading of the future.
We’ve already talked about the lasers, sensors and next-generation Terrain Response on the Discovery Vision Concept and now it is time to see all these in action.

Before we move on though, we have to keep in mind that this is an animation. We are shown a plethora of innovations, but we’ll have some waiting to do before we see how many of these go into Land Rover’s future cars. It also remains to be seen how well the features perform in the real world.

Returning to Land Rover’s presentation, we see the Discovery Vision Concept putting all its tech together to allow the driver to tackle the roughest of terrains. Moreover, the notion of partially automated offroading is also on the table here.

It all starts with the laser headlights, which offer superior visibility, even when compared to the LED headlights. These can also track various objects and adjust the light via beam-dipping.

The car’s then relies on its laser referencing to project visible markings onto the driving surface, allowing the driver to precisely position the car though narrow gaps. Moreover, a network of sensors scan the car’s surroundings, building an interactive map for the driver on the infotainment screen.

The vehicle uses this map too, calculating the best possible route and prompting its next-gen Terrain Response to adapt to the conditions. Land Rover’s Transparent Bonnet system allows the one behind the wheel to see the upcoming path. The system projects images taken from cameras onto a head-up display, making the bonnet to appear transparent.

The video doesn’t mention this, but the car can also be remote controlled, so that the driver can get out and evaluate the situation when this is required.

Well, we’ve set our clocks, let’s hope we get as many of these goodies as possible and in due time.
