Land Rover is preparing quite a makeover for its aging Discovery / LR4, with the future set to bring an entire Discovery family. The first step in the process is set to arrive at the New York Auto Show, for which Land Rover has just announced the Discovery Vision Concept.
The concept will preview the design direction of the future Discovery sub-range and the British automaker has released a teaser for it. The clip is focused on the cabin and it looks like there are plenty of reasons to rejoice.
Land Rover promises an "emotive design, unrivalled capability and ultimate versatility." Well, the video shows us an interesting cabin layout, with seven individual seats that promise a high degree of flexibility.
As for the Discovery Vision’s dashboard, this will come with a futuristic layout for the center console - the teaser shows the infotainment and gearshift rotary knows in a design that mixes luxury with a rugged appearance. The dash itself seems to come with a manly upright posture, while it will feature a high degree of digitization.
A previous teaser had shown us the overall silhouette of the Discovery (at the time this had not been announced as a concept) and this video takes things a bit further. We had already seen the raked windscreen and the traditional Discovery roofline, with the raised section at the rear. Now we can add a rather chiseled front fascia to that.
Moreover, Land Rover mysteriously says the Discovery Vision Concept will bring “Pioneering technology from Jaguar Land Rover's Advanced Research unit to be previewed for the first time”.
Apart from the good old Defender, the Discovery has always been the tougher member of the Land Rover family. We can’t wait to see how the automaker integrates this with its new-age direction. Luckily, the 2014 New York Auto Show is only two weeks away.
