If you live in the land down below, you’re probably accustomed to ridiculous pricing strategies practiced by premium manufacturers from Germany and not only.
In Australia, it’s not only snakes and crocodiles that will get you but also heart-attacks when looking at the prices some people ask for their cars. BMW is included in this latter category of risks.

The Bavarians just announced the pricing for its latest jewel, the 4 Series Gran Coupe and, to some people’s relief, they’re just AUD500 more than for its 2-door sibling.

The base model, the 420i, will start at AUD70,000 that will get you a petrol car with 184 HP and 270 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque and a fuel consumption, on average, of 6.1 l/100 km (38.5 mpg), with more than impressive performance, doing 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 7.6 seconds.

Pay AUD11,000 more and you get the 428i model that has similar displacement but makes 245 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, does 36.7 mpg (6.4 l/100km) but is faster to 100 km/h (62 mph) by 1.6 seconds.

For the top of the range model, the 435i, you’ll have to pony up even more, AUD109,000 to be more precise. That will get you a 3-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 6 cylinders displaced in line, making 306 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, capable of taking the four-door coupe up to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.2 seconds while sipping as much fuel as the 428i.

Of course, you can also have a diesel, only one at the moment, the 420d version. It comes with a price tag of AUD72,300, a 4-cylinder, 2-liter turbocharged engine making 184 HP and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque and the best fuel consumption of the bunch, estimated at 4.6 l/100 km (51.1 mpg) on average.

All cars are fitted, as standard with the automatic, brilliant 8-speed ZF gearbox with Launch Control function included. Other standard features include internet connectivity (for BMW’s ConnectedDrive suite), automatic tailgate and xenon headlights amongst others.

You can also have your pick out of three trim lines ranging from Sport line to Luxury and Modern Line. However, you can also deck your car with the exclusive M Sport package that will bring a punch to the overall design of your vehicle.
