Hot Wheel’s ‘Elite’ line is giving you the chance to own another scale model from the 70s racing era. It’s the Ferrari that raced against the famous Porsche 917 and its flat-12 monster engine.
The engine in the Ferrari 512 S was a new 60 degree V12 with 60 PS. Regulations in FIA /24 hours of Le Mans Sports 25 racing cars built under the name dictate that the displacement of the engine can not be any more than five liters, so this has a 4993cc unit.
This one, number 21,was driven by Mario Andretti, Nino Vaccarella and Ignazio Giunti and won the 12 Hours of Sebring after an incredible race!
Unlike the air-cooled boxer engine that the Porsche used, the 512 S had a complicated cooling system and heavy radiator. Combined with a heavier chassis, the Ferrari racer was 100 kg heavier than the alloy-framed 917.
