The media has been inundated yesterday with news of this awesome conversion of a Ferrari 458 Italia, built for Eric Clapton over a period of two years. Supposedly, the one-off was supposed to be fitted with a big V12 as a tribute to the Ferrari 512 BB of 1970s, but that might not actually be the case.
Thanks to Shmee150, we can show you a video of the car being delivered and of it rolling down the road in London. He says that while the original idea was to make it a V12, dropping that into the back of the supercar proved too complicated, and so it’s still got a V8. This has not been verified yet, but indeed it does sound exactly like the 458’s 4.5-liter 90 degree lump of greatness. Even the three-piece exhaust has been left.
Claton wanted the car to be a spiritual successor to the 512, which indeed had a 12-cylinder, but it was a boxer engine which Ferrari doesn’t make any more. We might still be proven wrong, but until specs for this car appear we’re going to stick to our gums.
So, did the car really cost GBP3 million? We hope not, because it’s pretty ugly.
