Some might argue that spending $500 (€375) or so on a small, 125-er bike is silly and way too deep into the “overkill shopping area”. However, when it comes to the attachment riders develop for machines like the Honda Grom, it looks like nothing is too much. And if you think adding an Akrapovic carbon fiber slip-on silcencer to the Grom is too much, then how about turning yours into a Ducati Monster lookalike, then?
Long story short, if you feel like adding more punch and style to your Grom, Akrapovic has just the right solution, definitely one of the niftiest in the aftermarket exhaust department. The Grom, also known as the MSX125, receives a new silencer, this time in titanium. The 2013 model year had a carbon fiber can, but things changed a bit this year. Still, your Grom will get a well-deserved performance upgrade, as the new titanium silencer will shave off no less than 2.5 kg (5.5 lb) and make your bike swifter.

Equipped with the stock silencer, the 2014 Grom produces 11 Nm (8.1 lb-ft) of torque at 5,350 revs, and the new silencer adds 0.5 Nm (04 lb-ft) at a noticeably lower 4,500 rpm. On the power figures side, the new Akrapovic silencer adds 0.4 hp to the existing 9 horsies the Grom can produce, but the noise levels are up quite a bit: measured at 3,500 revs, the stock exhaust produces 78 dB, while the new Akrapovic blasts 87 dB. Definitely worth checking the noise regulations in your area.

Installation is as easy as pie, and Akrapovic says a medium-skill rider can replace the stock can with the new Akrapovic slip-on in 30 minutes or so. Mounting bracket and screws included in the package. Now, prices we’ve seen vary quite a lot between resellers, but we’ve seen that most of them range between $400 and $500 (€300-375).
