Honda Extends E-KIZUNA in Saitama

Japanese automakers have a very interesting philosophy when it comes to making the road ahead easier for the EVs they'd launch in the near future. Whereas, for instance, GM focuses more on the product itself, the Japanese have made a habit out of partnering with local authorities and to create the perfect environment for the proper deployment of the EVs. The Japanese approach is, if you like, the sane one, the one that builds the road and only then manufacturers the car.

Without a doubt, Nissan is the world champion when it comes to making such private-government alliances. However, Honda is trying to keep up by launching its E-KIZUNA project across Japan. Most recently, Honda signed an agreement for this project with the city of Saitama.

E-KIZUNA is the generic name that describes the steps the car maker and the local authorities will take in order to facilitate the introduction and spread of electric vehicles. It calls for Honda to construct and test its Honda Smart Home System (aiming to reduce household CO2 emissions half of year 2000 level by the middle of the decade), access to electric vehicles and creating EV-related business models and creating independent home communities focused on local energy production and consumption.

Just as with other similar Japanese business models, Honda's E-KIZUNA aims to create a self sufficient, energy independent community. That also calls for Honda to venture into fields it is not accustomed to, like using solar panels and fuel cells to supply energy for both its electric vehicle and the needs of the local households.
