No, we haven’t gotten the resize of a photo wrong and squashed it by mistake, this is just the rendered image of a CR-Z hybrid race car destined to compete in the Japanese Super GT racing series, a sort of touring car championship. This is a very interesting series filled with much more varied sorts than we’ve gotten used to, from old models like the RX-7 to brand new cars, and even some oddities like the Prius.
According to Jon Sibal, the car you see here is developed with M-TEC Co., Ltd. and will be campaigned by Team Mugen. The bad news is that it won’t be ready until the forth race of the season, Sportsland SUGO.

Unfortunately, not much else is known about the car. The GT300 rules state you can’t clip the chassis, but realignments are legal in the case of front-wheel drive cars, which the CR-Z is.

By July 30th, when the car makes its racing debut, we’re sure we’ll get more details for you.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
