After showing it last year during the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show, the new Honda Civic Tourer has made its official South African debut in today.
The Civic estate model is heavily based on the normal hatchback. In fact, even the rear doors are identical in order to save money. But the Tourer does have one particularly interesting party trick: adaptive suspension, used by Honda for the first time on a compact car. Drivers can select one of three settings (comfort, normal and dynamic), though whichever one you chose, the car still adapts according to the road conditions.
In order to save costs, there are only two dampers on the car, both on the back corners. Not having them in the front as well means Honda has an option that's much cheaper than its rivals, but still somewhat improves comfort.
The Tourer will be available with two engines: the new 1.6 i-DTEC four-cylinder turbodiesel from the Earth Dreams Technology series and the 1.8 i-VTEC engine, both in manual or automatic guise.
For now, only the 1.8 petrol version is available in South Africa pith the following base price:
