Honda CB500 Enters the Land of Custom Grace, Looks Downright Menacing

It may only have 58 hp on tap, but the aesthetics will have you drooling!
At its core, the project we’ll be looking at today started with a standard 1996 model from Honda’s CB500 family. In stock guise, this bad boy is put in motion by a vicious liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-twin powerplant, with eight valves and a displacement of 499 cc.

The four-stroke engine is fully capable of summoning up to 58 ponies at 9,500 rpm and a healthy torque output of 35 pound-feet (47 Nm) at around 8,000 rpm. This force is transmitted to a chain final drive via a six-speed gearbox, leading to a generous top speed of 116 mph (186 kph).

Given its desirable characteristics, it’s no wonder many workshops will select this machine as their weapon of choice when undertaking a bespoke venture. One such exploit hails from Portugal’s Bold Motorcycles, a lesser-known moto guru duo that’ll make absolutely no compromises on its quest to create a custom two-wheeled masterpiece.

As for their tasty CB500-based brew, the folks began by removing the bike’s bodywork in its entirety, with the exception of the gas tank. The following step consisted of tweaking its subframe module to accommodate a steel tail section and a single-seater leather saddle that’s been upholstered in-house. To keep things clutter-free, the Portuguese artists went about relocating any electrical units and discarding the airbox.

Up front, we notice a state-of-the-art speedometer and an asymmetrical fairing hugging an eccentric, yellow-tinted headlight, as well as a pair of aftermarket handlebars wearing tan leather grips and bar-end turn signals. At the rear, this one-off CB500 comes equipped with a modern LED taillight and a discrete license plate holder found below the tail.

Furthermore, the wheels are enveloped in high-performance tires from Avon’s range, while the brakes got blessed with braided lines. With the airbox gone, you will now find a set of pod filters enabling the parallel-twin engine to breathe a little more freely. The finishing touch comes in the form of a gloss green finish, joined by gold pinstripes all over the bike’s fresh bodywork.
