The S550-generation Shelby GT500 was discontinued after model year 2022 because of the F-150 Raptor R, which uses a slightly different setup from the Blue Oval's 760-hp muscle car. The biggest change is the 2.91-inch supercharger pulley as opposed to 3.25 inches for the off-road truck.
Ford also decided on cast stainless-steel exhaust manifolds for better durability, a valved pass-through muffler, a beefier oil cooler joined by a deeper oil ban, plus a wider air intake inlet. Being a half-ton pickup, the dual-clutch transmission of the Shelby GT500 was ditched in favor of a torque-converter automatic that rocks a few Raptor R-specific upgrades over the 10R80 in the Raptor.

Ford's answer to the now-discontinued Ram 1500 TRX made 700 horsepower and 640 pound-feet (868 Nm) for the 2023 model year, whereas the 2024 levels up to 720 ponies and the very same peak torque rating as the pre-facelift model. Hennessey Performance Engineering has recently modified a 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R to 1,000 crank horsepower, of which 782.87 ponies reach the rear wheels. That means 78.28 percent of the crankshaft rating advertised by the Texas-based tuner, which is a little off the generally accepted 15-percent rule.

The Dynojet dynamometer also recorded 618.51 pound-feet (838.6 Nm) at the rear wheels, meaning 72.76 percent compared to the crankshaft-rated 850 pound-feet (1,152 Nm). The 37-inch tires are part of the reason for these apparently disappointing rear-wheel figures, but looking at the bigger picture 783 wheel ponies and 619 pound-feet of wheel torque are better than Ford's crankshaft numbers for the refreshed F-150 Raptor R. That said, how did Hennessey Performance Engineering squeeze out so much from eight cylinders totaling 5.2 liters?

First and foremost, Hennessey removed the factory-issue Eaton TVS R2650 supercharger in favor of a larger unit from Whipple. That's 3.8 liters instead of just under 2.7 for the Roots-type Eaton blower, whereas the Whipple is a twin-screw design.

HPE further sweetens the deal with a high-flow air induction system, an upgraded fuel line plus anodized billet fuel rails, as well as an air/oil separator. The off-road side of the VelociRaptoR 1000 package comprises 37-inch Toyo R/T Open Country rubber mounted on Hennessey-branded 20s with a 10-spoke design, Hennessey front and rear bumpers, as well as leveling kits for both the front and rear ends for an extra 3.0 inches overall.

The VelociRaptoR 1000 package also includes electric fold-out steps, Hennessey and VelociRaptoR 1000 badging, serialized plaques in the engine bay and cabin, as well as three years of warranty. Optionally, customers can further improve the breed with a performance brake kit.

Hennessey Performance Engineering didn't bother mentioning the retail price of said package, nor did Hennessey announce how many VelociRaptoR 1000s will be produced for 2023. Considering that Hennessey wants $24,950 for the Ranger Raptor's VelociRaptor 500, the VelociRaptoR 1000 could be close to $60,000, of which the 3.8-liter supercharger alone retails at $7,899.99 on Whipple's website.
