Heavily Modified BMW E92 M3 Burns Some Rubber to Remind Us of the S65 V8

A lot of people are nostalgic after the old S65 4-liter V8 used on the previous gen BMW M3 Coupe and we have to admit, it had a certain sound to it that was simply mesmerizing. Add an Akrapovic or Eisenmann exhaust and you’re set for a complete aural experience.
That’s not completely gone on the new M4 to be honest but it sounds different. And understandably, the 2015 model has an inline 6-cylinder engine under the bonnet that will never sound as good as a V8, no matter what you do to it.

Sure, some would say that the high-pitched noises coming from the exhaust of the new M4 are nowhere near how it should sound in the first place. On top of that, piping exhaust sound inside the cabin is a sacrilege all by itself so a little disappointment is understandable.

We explained why BMW decided to enforce such a measure countless times but people still don’t understand. The thing is, the new cars have so well isolated cabins that hearing the engine with the windows up is a problem.

Not for this car though. As you can see, everything that wasn’t essential was stripped out, only the instrument cluster, a part of the dash, the gear shift stick, seats and steering wheel being kept along. Well, kept along is a bit of an overstatement as they definitely are not the original ones fitted by BMW inside (except the instrument cluster).

As the description says, the action took place at the Castelletto racetrack and the M3 is wearing an Akrapovic exhaust system that sure is worth all the praise it has been getting ever since it was launched. If you think otherwise, just let us know!
