Hamilton Allowed to Drive in Switzerland

Last month, we were reporting that the Swiss authorities in Geneva were asked by some organizations, among which the most important and vocal was the Swiss road crash victims foundation RoadCross, to ban Formula One race driver Lewis Hamilton from the roads due to the comments his girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger made in an interview with Maxime magazine.

In that interview, she was joking about how fast her hubby goes on the streets of Switzerland, saying that if she were to disclose the speeds recorded by Ham's Mercedes, he would definitely be banned from driving in the country. He currently rents an apartment in Geneva.

Following those comments, and considering that Hamilton was already involved in a slight car accident in Geneva in April 2009 – when British driver ran through a stop sign and right into a Peugeot 206 with female driver on board – the RoadCross foundation publicly asked the local attorney to revoke Hamilton's driving license.

The foundation was not alone in its attempt to turn Hamilton into a pedestrian, as it was backed by several local politicians (looking for votes or not, it's really not our problem). The fact of the matter remains however that the Geneva authorities have closed the case on Hamilton for lack of evidence, therefore the whole story has ended, as reported by the local media.

Aside from the Geneva incident last year, the British champion had one more encounter with a local police in 2010, this time in Melbourne, Australia, where he was pulled over by the traffic officers for doing a burnout and a fishtail on the streets of the Victorian state. His car was then confiscated for 48 hours and he was handed a fine.
