General Motors announced that the 2009 Buick LaCrosse, initially scheduled for unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show, will be postponed to January 2009 as a “cost-cutting measure”. According to Ride Lust, rumors concerning a potential delay of Buick LaCrosse spread since last spring but it was only officially confirmed last Friday.

Obviously, in the context of economic crisis, General Motors' decision is somehow understandable, given the fact that several other car manufacturers had to modify their initially plans regarding the US market. In most cases, the global recession reduced the demand for certain brands but, the rest of the car producers preferred to take measures to prevent and to minimize loses.

The 2009 Buick LaCrosse was regarded as a model meant to lure a whole new segment of customers and a potential Convertible variant does nothing more than to suggest that the parent company looks for younger clients.

Buick LaCrosse is a mid-size car equipped with a V6 3.8-liter engine, which releases 200 horsepower at 5200 rpm, combined with an automatic transmission. The average city fuel consumption is 17 mpg while in highway mode it goes to as much as 28 mpg.

In terms of safety, the 2009 LaCrosse is equipped with frontal, driver and right front passenger airbags, head curtain side airbags and 3-points safety belts for driver, right front passenger and rear passengers.

Obviously, the upcoming model will features all kinds of high-end equipment, including cruise control, remote keyless entry, air filtration system, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, tire pressure monitoring system and theft-deterrent system.
