Frank Deiss Named Beijing Benz CEO

German manufacturer Mercedes Benz announced today the appointment of Frank Deiss to the position of president and CEO of Beijing Benz Automotive (BBAC), an equally owned joint venture between Daimler and Beijing Automotive.

Deiss will be replacing the current CEO, Guenter Butschek, who moved to become the new head of Operations at Airbus, in March. Butschek held various positions in logistics and procurement before moving to management positions at the manufacturer's operations in South Africa and the Netherlands. He was appointed CEO of the company when it was established, back in 2005.

“In the name of the entire China Executive Board, I would like to thank Guenter Butschek for his commitment and for what he has achieved during the past six years at our Daimler joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industrial Holding,” said Ulrich Walker, Daimler Northeast Asia CEO.

“Under his management, we started the production of the C- and E-Class passenger cars here in China. Guenter Butschek successfully and continuously increased capacity, productivity and flexibility of the plant.”

His successor, Deiss, is a Daimler employee since 1984, when he joined the group as a student of Business Administration and most recently has been in charge with global procurement of production material for Daimler'a passenger cars and vans divisions since July 2005.

In turn, he will be replaced in his current position by Klaus Zehender, the head of Logistics at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen.

BBAC began production in 2006, releasing at first the E-Klasse. One year later, the model was joined by the C-Klasse, while in 2010 the long wheelbase E-Klasse was added to the production line.
