2011 is set to be a very important year in McLaren Automotive, thanks to the much awaited launch of the company’s new high-performance sports car, the MP4-12C. As a result, Greg Levine will be the new Sales and Marketing Director in McLaren’s first full year of global commercial operations.
Levine is bringing his 15 years of industry experience to the table, including a five-year at the head of Audi South Africa and, most recently, at Audi UK as Head of Operations.
“I first met Greg during our time working together in Italy and knew then that he had a bright future in the car industry. He has rapidly moved up through the ranks in the business and enjoyed great success in South Africa and the UK. His knowledge of the retail business and brand-building is excellent, and the fact that he has chosen to step into this crucial role at McLaren Automotive is testimony both to his drive and ambition, and McLaren’s ability to persuade strong industry players to join our team,” explains Antony Sheriff, Managing Director at McLaren Automotive.
The first MP4-12C should go on sale in late-spring, while production has already begun at the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC). It is expected to cost £169,505 in the UK, and from €200,000 in the rest of Europe.
The model is powered by a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine producing around 600 horsepower and 433 lb-ft (587 Nm) of torque. The bespoke powerplant features a flat-plane crank, a dry sump and can rev up to 8,500 rpm, though 80% of the torque is said to be available from as low as 2,000 rpm.
