Tesla Motors is being sued by a former employee named Thomas Flessner, who used to work as an engineer for the automaker.
The 69-year-old engineer says that his first contact with Tesla took place within a contract hire, but he was brought on full time to be a materials engineer in 2012.

He sued the automaker because he says that he was discriminated on account of his age. The plaintiff says that he worked just as hard as everyone else, but he had to disprove myths about older workers.

Furthermore, the plaintiff claims that the team even isolated him and routinely chastised for reportedly completing projects slower than his coworkers.

At the same time, the engineer recalls that younger employees were not criticized for the speed of their work, even though they did not get things done any faster than him.

According to Fusion, Tesla representatives refused to comment on the specifics of the lawsuit, but the spokesperson of the automaker stated that the company is focused on having a discrimination-free workplace.

If any of the claims made by the plaintiff are true, Tesla is in for a handful, as Mr. Flessner says that things have gotten worse at his former workplace after he took time off to get an operation for a congestive heart failure.

This is not the first lawsuit concerning age discrimination and a company from Silicon Valley. Older employees or job candidates for various start-ups and corporations claim that their experience and knowledge were ignored for younger workers.

Moreover, the push for higher diversity has not helped, as the issue of age discrimination still exists around the world. Don't agree? Just send your mom or dad on a job interview for a post that is suitable for their qualifications and experience.

The 69-year-old engineer says that he worked with his supervisor on an “action plan” to improve his reviews, but was still fired in February 2016. The biggest challenge for the lawyer representing Mr. Flessner would be demonstrating the claimed discrimination, as many of the described events took place in verbal conversations.
