Former Mazda Worker on Driving Frenzy Kills 1, Injures 10

Toshiaki Hikiji
A former Mazda worker in Japan deliberately drove his car into a group of employees of the factory where he used to work, killing one man and injuring other ten earlier this week.Toshiaki Hikiji, 42, reportedly speeded past the security gates of the two Mazda Motor Corporation plants in the Hiroshima Prefecture, driving his car in an extremely aggressive manner for a period of time, before hitting the group of people.

After the accident took place, Hikiji left the scene in a hurry, abandoning his car and running, but was later captured by the police. It appears that he was originally planing to cause more harm, as it was reported that we was willing to use a knife in order to attack more people at the Mazda site. The aforementioned knife was found in the man’s car, subsequent to his arresting.

Hokiji had a temporary job at Mazda earlier this year. Reports indicate that he quit the job on his own decision, after working for a short period of time.

A similar incident took place in Japan in 2008, when a man who worked for a Toyota affiliate drove his vehicle into a Tokyo shopping district and started attacking people with a knife. However, the events that occurred back then were much more dramatic, as seven people were killed and ten were injured.

The Japanese Police is now investigating the case, with certain sources indicating that the 42 year old had a grudge against the automotive producer he had worked for.
