We’ve been trying to reach out to the teenager who complained about his Miata getting bullied for two weeks in a row at his high school in Texas ever since his story showed up on Reddit last week. Many people on Reddit have tried to contact the teen too, offering support and the same can be said about various Miata forums and Facebook groups. As it turns out, his story was most likely fake.
A part of the smoke started clearing out when TexasImportsToday tired to contact the teenager to help. The Facebook group also contacted us, but all the paths led to the conclusion above.

Yesterday (Monday) was supposed to bring us all a twist in the story, as the teen was expected to seek legal advice on the matter together with his family. With people putting online pressure on him to deliver a piece of info, he posted the following message:

Hey yall, before i say anything i just wanted to thank yall for the immense support yall have given me. its crazy how much can stir off 1 throwaway account. My parents/family have decided that for the sake of publicity, we did not go through with the news report. The kids have been caught, as for the school they couldn’t give a s**t less.

This is the point where the story really starts to have a fabrication aroma - “Now for the sad part, my father sold the Miata while I was at school. Again, my parents blamed the car and not me, saying it was the main reason. As much as I hate the decision, and adored the car, I can see why my father would do so.

The teenager moves on to reaching back to the community - "if you have any questions ill be on this account for a little tonight. also if you live in the dfw area, pm me some car meet locations! i really want to meet you guys! its amazing how much support yall have given me thru this."

Oh and did we mention his account is now deleted?

You see, the teenager initially said he had raised $4,300 to buy the Miata. Sure, he only claimed to be 17-years old, but it seems highly unlikely for his father to sell his car just like that and go through with the procedures in such a short amount of time. Remember, the car was supposed to have been keyed all over, but no photo proof was provided.

While it could make sense for a potentially-hired lawyer to ask the teen to stop posting about the issue while a purported case was being built. Still, his recently-opened account, which had very few posts other than the Miata one, is now deleted.

Here’s what TexasImportsToday found out - “Some commenters personally know principals within the Frisco HS district and none of the higher ups have heard about any trouble regarding a Miata or a butthurt dude/troll for that matter. Case closed.

The conclusion

As we said, this is, most likely, a case of trolling. If you happen to have other evidence, do write to us. However, it’s difficult to make something out of this. On one hand, we feel silly for having made the error and for the fact that we are talking about the fourth most popular story in the history of the “cars” subreddit. Then again, doesn’t this all mean we should be happy no Miata was harmed in the making of this trolling?
