After a few years of uncertainty, Ford finally started producing 1.0-liter EcoBoost engines in their Romanian plant, in Craiova. Their aim is to triple European production of the three-pot EcoBoost engine within the next 3 years, from 141,000 engines built in 2011 to 480,000 engines in 2015.
The people at Ford are very proud of their 1.0-liter engine, and apparently everybody else likes it too, as it is expected to account for more than half of Ford’s European sales in the following 3 years. Ford plans to build 800,000 vehicles equipped with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, between 2012-2015 in Romania and Germany. Sherif Mrakby, Powertrain Director of Ford Europe said "Our EcoBoost plans are aggressive, but we believe as customers experience this engine family, they'll understand why," and "We're at the cutting edge of innovation and the 1.0-litre engine cannot be matched for its balance of efficiency, power and refinement."

The officials’ confidence is matched by the very positive public reception of the 1.0-liter engine and it has been praised for being quiet, refined and quite punchy for its size. Ford may be on to a winner.
