Ford Adds Third Shift in Cleveland to Increase V6 EcoBoost Production

Ford has found the new Goldielocks market, where customers want that extra bit of economy with their performance and make their buying decision based upon how rounded their car is.

A big part of this has been the switch from V8s to a turbo V6 EcoBooost that is finding them favor with pickup trucks especially, much to the dismay of GM and Ram, who have taken repeated potshots at Ford.

But there’s no disagreeing with market success, as FoMoCo has announced today they will be adding a third production shift at the Cleveland Engine Plant to keep up with demand for the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 3.7-liter V6 engine.

Thus, 250 workers will be hired, and the new engines will reportedly go to the Ford Taurus, F-150, Flex and the Lincoln MKS and MKT, in the case of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and the Mustang and F-150 when talking about the 3.7-liter.

“Our engine plant in Cleveland is the first and only facility in North America to produce EcoBoost engines, and we are tripling production capacity to meet customers’ growing needs for fuel-efficient engines,” said Mark Fields, president of The Americas, at an employee celebration at the plant today.” EcoBoost engines are a key part of our plan to give customers the power of choice – from EcoBoost-powered vehicles and hybrids to plug-in hybrids and full electrics.”
