America has never had the Focus ST on its, and while it might seem risky to introduce a front-wheel drive hothatch to a market that doesn’t understand it, there’s really no risk involved. The Mustang might be a bit cheaper as a base car, but you don’t get the same practicality and the customers don’t overlap.
How can we compare the Mustang to a Focus ST in terms of price? Well, the US sticker has been leaked as being $23,700, not including destination which should be the same as the rest of the Focus lineup at $795, bringing up the price to $24,495. That’s in the same sort of range as the recently launched Scion FR-S, and also the Golf GTI, which starts at $23,995 as a three-door.

The options list for the 2012 Ford Focus ST includes a moonroof for $895, navigation for $795, the cool metallic orange paint for $495. Three are two extra trim levels with more equipment, one adding $2,505 and the other $4,840 to the price. We expect these to add partial and full leather for the interior.

The Focus ST should begin its global rollout this month. In all markets, it will be supplied with the same 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged inline four-cylinde engine developing 250 hp.
