The Ford Transit is a name synonymous with Europe and small businesses. It is a word which has been present in the vocabulary of small business owners and workers for over four decades, going through no fewer than seven generations before reaching the one we are talking about today. However, it will also be a common sight in the US, as it replaces the gas-guzzling E-Series which Americans have used for years - it's about time they get a proper efficient van.
First unveiled for the US market, the new Transit was actually engineered and designed in Europe, and the overall impression it leaves you with is one of considerable and impressive progress over the old model, while keeping the look in line with the current range of passenger cars - we really like it!

It also features the best interior we’ve ever seen on a van, as well as class-leading cargo space and practicality. “This may be a more stylish Transit, but it’s a more functional Transit, too,” says Barry Gale, Commercial Vehicles chief engineer, Ford of Europe. “The additional features we have built into the loadspace make everyday functions more convenient – so it’s easier for customers to do their job.”

Powering the new Transit will probably be the same 2.2-liter diesel engine, with outputs ranging from 100 hp, up to 155 hp, and all versions will be mated to a manual six-cog gearbox which will enable skillful drivers to get seriously low fuel consumption figures out of it. Order books have already opened and deliveries will start this November, so if you were looking for a new van, the Transit is currently the most modern van on the market.
