Imagine yourself in your brand new 2013 Ford Fusion Ecoboost, sitting at the traffic lights. As you prepare to rev the turbocharged engine at the green light, a... Space Shuttle pulls up next to you. We know this sound crazy, but this is how the Blue Oval is promoting the the turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder Ecoboost unit in the 2013 Fusion.
The carmaker might have a point, since the turbo setup of the new Fusion, which spins all the way up to 190,000 rpm, is made of the same MAR M246 nickel-cobalt-tungsten superalloy that can be found in the high-pressure turbo pumps of the Space Shuttle’s main engines.
