Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is the first off-road-ready electric Ford. The carmaker debuted the model at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and called it a "history-making" car.
It is also the first time in nearly six decades' history of the model when the Mustang nameplate is being linked to rallying. Ford toys around with the idea of amping up the fun and claims that the new Mach-E Rally is designed to go where no Mustang has gone before and can keep going where the tarmac ends and the dirt road begins. And the looks confirm. It is not much that we see, though, since the prototype that Ford revealed is heavily camouflaged in a black, grey, and white pattern, sporting the “Mach-E Rally” decals on the sides.

A custom faux grille integrating two additional round LEDs and the red tow hook are hints that there is something special about this new version. The model sports a rally-style spoiler up on the roof and wears white wheels with BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A tires, as well as mud guards.

Not much is different about the design of the front and rear bumper compared to those of the Mustang Mach-E GT’s. The interior seems pretty much the same, too. The tablet-like touchscreen is there. The seats are wrapped in black leather and there are contrasting cream elements in the steering wheel, on the back of the front set.

Ford still keeps the info regarding output under wraps. But if we consider the resemblance to the Mustang Mach-E GT, we should have to deal with a dual-motor powertrain, capable of delivering 480 horsepower (487 PS/358 kW) and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) of torque. The Mach-E GT runs from 0 to 60 mph (0-97 kph) in 3.8 seconds.

The car goes up the Goodwood on Friday hill in the hands of former World Rally Champion and current M-Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally driver Ott Tank. But there is an a tarmac-only track in Sussex. Unless the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally decides to get off he asphalt, like it did in the teaser video released a couple of days ago.

Darren Palmer, Vice President of Electric Vehicle Programs, Ford Model e, says that customers will have the chance to venture off the asphalt and beyond the beaten path with the five-seat Mustang Mach-E Rally. So it is obvious that we’re not dealing with a track version of the Mustang, like the GT3 and GT4, for instance. So customers will be able to take one home first in the United States and Europe.

At Goodwood, the Mustang Mach-E Rally is in select company. The GT3 and GT4 race cars, the M-Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1, as well as the Ford Explorer EV are there.
