Ford has released the “Racing the Boss: Parnelli Jones” video on YouTube, as part of its “Mustang Countdown” online series that previews the musclecar’s 50th anniversary scheduled on April 17, 2014.
The new footage features former racing driver Parnelli Jones, who won the 1970 Trans-Am Championship while driving a track-prepped Ford Mustang Boss 302. Famous for his Indy 500 accomplishments, which include a 1963 win as a driver and 1970 and 1971 victories as a team owner, Parnelli Jones is also known for driving the No.15 “School Bus Orange” Mustang Boss 302 in the 1970 Trans-Am Championship.
With Jones behind the wheel, Ford recaptured the manufacturers title after two seasons dominated by Mark Donohue and his Penske-sponsored Chevrolet Camaro. Scroll below to watch Parnelli, who turned 80 earlier this month, talk about the 1970 Trans-Am season and how he won the last race at Riverside with a damaged car.
