Over the last few years, the automotive world has really accelerated the efficiency pursuing trend, with customers becoming more and more interested in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
One of the areas where these two can generate important savings is the transportation business. This is because commercial vehicles cover a high mileage and any efficiency advantage is multiplied by this.
The automotive producers are aware of this and make efforts to offer improved powerplants that bring smaller fuel bills for their commercial vehicle customers.
The latest move on this segment of the market comes from Ford, which announced that is has introduced revised diesel engines that meet the Euro V emission standard.
The Ford Transit Connect and Turneo Connect are now available with the new 1.8 liter TDCI diesel engine that meets the Euro 5 emissions standard. The unit is available in three power levels, in order to cater for the needs of a wide range of customers.
The entry level version offers 75, being followed by a 90 hp one and a 110 hp one. All the incarnations of the engine can only be ordered with a five-speed manual gearbox and offer the same fuel efficiency (6 liters per 100 km), as well as CO2 emissions (160 grams per km).
Depending on the power level, the engine manages to push the vehicle in which it is installed to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 21, 17.4 and 14,4 seconds respectively.
