The Ford Fiesta RS is like a rumor that refuses to die. It was around back in 2007 when the ST used a 150 hp 2-liter engine and it's back in 2015, with a turbo twist.
The boss of Ford's go-fast division recently told Autocar magazine that a hotter Fiesta is on its way, without cornfirming or denying that it's an RS model.
Of course, this was blown completely out of proportion and soon after that, Auto Express wrote that it's learned the Fiesta RS will be launched soon and it will have all-wheel drive. Considering the limitations of the platform, that's a huge stretch of the imagination.
However, if fans start dreaming, building Facebook comunities and petitioning, it might actually happen. And what better way to light the fire of creativity than with an awesome rendering, like the one recently made by X-Tomi Design. He grafted the aggressive front end design of the Focus RS onto the little Fiesta, added larger wheels, a spoiler and twin exhaust.
To compete with the best superminis in the world, the Fiesta RS would need a 2-liter turbo engine with around 230 horsepower. Both the Audi S1 and the MINI JCW pack that much.
But we think the single biggest problem with the Fiesta RS is the age of the platform. The current generation went into production back in 2008 and received a mid-life facelift in 2013. Which means a brand new generation should come out in 2017 or Ford will risk falling behind newer models like the Skoda Fabia and Opel Corsa.
