Just recently, Ford Performance announced its motorsport and performance goals for 2024 – they're basically doing more of everything, including an exploration of the novel EV lifestyle into new territory.
After the SuperVan 4.0 and 4.2, the Mustang Mach-E 1400, the Mustang CobraJet 1400, and the F-100 Eluminator prototypes, the new playground for Ford Performance (alongside Vaghn Gittin Jr.'s RTR Vehicles and a few others, most likely) was the field of EV off-roaders. For that, they took the F-150 Lightning, allegedly America's best-selling EV pickup truck, and basically turned it into an electric Raptor – possibly even a zero-emissions Raptor R.

Dubbed the Ford F-150 Lightning Switchgear, it was inspired by the F-150 RTR Ultimate Fun-Haver project vehicle from 2016 and comes with 37 inches, additional width and suspension travel plus ground clearance, a carbon composite body, five Recaro Sportster ORV seats, a humongous billet reverse mount hydraulic e-brake from ASD Motorsports. They didn't give us any performance figures, so we might as well guess that its F-150 Lightning chassis and powertrain were left unchanged. Of course, with Vaughn at the helm, the EV demonstrator was prone to demonstrating that it likes catching air on the trails and playing sideways in the grass or dirt.

Naturally, this prototype is garnering a lot of attraction from Blue Oval fans – for both good and bad reasons. Oh, and also for some quirky motifs – as is mostly the case with the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. For example, Jim, the virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, loves messing around with all things CGI from GM and Ford, so obviously, he couldn't ignore this fresh take on an EV pickup truck. However, he did give it his signature styling and messed around with it from his particular POV.

You see, this pixel master is a proud owner of a 1986 Buick Regal T-Type and also of a 2001 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning, so it is pretty obvious that he loves vehicles from the 1980s through the early 2000s. As such, maybe his decision to morph the Ford F-150 Lightning Switchgear EV pickup truck into a two-door short-wheelbase EV Bronco SUV makes sense – especially since the author says that in his mind, "the Bronco is what they gave us in the 1980s."

For sure, it looks spot on because of the shorter livery, the big wing at the rear, the off-road tire and wheel package, and also the modern EV-style treatment of the front fascia. Besides, if this thing were real, it would run in circles around the F-150 because it would be 2X nimbler on the trails – and possibly also a bit lighter. Alas, it is merely wishful thinking, and the real Bronco soldiers on with 2- and 4-door models that directly clash with the mid-size Jeep Wrangler plus Toyota 4Runner.
