Ever since the launch of the revolutionary iPad last year, the automotive industry has begun a race like no other, as it tried to find the perfect way to marry the gadget with the dashboards of the various vehicles. Until now, however, no worth-mentioning integration has been achieved.
But, where automotive giants have failed, tech heads have made it. In a garage somewhere, a group of avid iPad fans have a pretty good job at fitting an iPad into the dash of a Ford F-150 pick-up truck. And from here, the sky is the limit.
The crew that managed to bring to life the iPad as a part of the car is called SoundMan Car Audio. In time, they became so good at trying to make the gadget fit into almost every dash, that a complete guide has been developed and posted online at the following link.
Of course, hooking up the iPad to the car requires a bit more skill than say plugging in an iPod, for instance. Some modifications have to be made to the dash of the car itself, while some wiring expertise might be required.
Of course, making the car an iPad hub could cost a bit. SoundMan says that, for the F-150, for instance, the cost of the installation, not including the iPad but including the required wiring, might stand at about $800-$900.
More details about how the fitting of the iPad in the F-150 went can be seen in the video below. Additional details can be found at the following link.
