Volkswagen Golf 6 Cabriolet on the Road to Freedom

Volkswagen has recently released the first official video of its new Golf 6 Cabriolet model. As you would expect, there’s a few references to the original model (for pedigree), a young (target customers) and some smooth sunny roads (related to product’s image).

As it is still spring right now, in most parts of Europe it is better not to look out the window. But Volkswagen rightfully guesses, in our opinion, that most of its customers are already dreaming of the sunny days of summer. What’s more, Volkswagen did not accidently launch the cabriolet at the Geneva Motor Show, on a timely pre-summer marketing wave.

The short video we are proposing for your approval evokes the feeling of open-air driving and a simplicity that has been missing from the range for almost a decade.

We also get to see the four-seater’s innovative soft top being retracted. The electro-hydraulic drive is capable of opening the Golf's top in just 9.5 seconds. It can also be opened and closed while driving at speeds of up to 30 km/h (18 mph).

Styling-wise, the new VW Golf Cabriolet's lines follows that of its hard-top three-door counterpart, but it shows a level of independence with a new rear section, lower profile roof line and more swept-back angle of its front windscreen frame. The convertible looks especially well when ordered with optional bi-xenon headlights. As a standard feature, the car gets the same LED rear lights of the GTI.

Other standard safety features offering peace of mind are the automatically deploying roll-over bar, front airbags, side head/thorax airbags, knee airbag for the driver and ESP.
