The 2011 Geneva Auto Show that opens its doors to the press next week seems to be the right occasion for Volkswagen to make another step towards its goal of becoming the world's number one carmaker by 2018. The company will thus debut two new variations of the popular Golf model, namely the convertible and the cabriolet, both of which are expected to go on sale by the end of the year.
The curious thing is that Volkswagen initially hinted that this sixth generation of the Golf won't get a convertible or a cabriolet version, as it planned to keep the two configurations for the seventh iteration of the model.
However, sources familiar with the matter revealed that Volkswagen's lineup for the Geneva Auto Show might also include the two models and, because the Germans haven't said anything about it, the only thing we can do is just wait and see if there's indeed some truth behind these words.
Besides the two Golf versions, the Germans will also display the Microbus concept it developed in 2001 but, once again, there's no word whether this project has any chance of entering production in the future. The facelifted Tiguan will also be there, alongside the other models currently comprising the Germans' product lineup.
autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
