Volvo Uses Golf to Penetrate Indian Market

Just like its rivals in the auto sector, Volvo wants to get a bigger share of India's growing auto sector, so each new move it makes in the region is specifically supposed to help it in this regard. The Swedish company's last effort is a partnership with the 2011 Avantha Masters through which Volvo will become a hole-in-one sponsor for the second consecutive year.

This way, Volvo hopes to get a greater audience for the two models it plans to roll out there this year - the XC60 and the new S60 sedan released in the rest of the markets during the course of the last year. The European Tour will host the Avantha Masters from February 17-20, 2011 at the DLF Golf and Country Club, Gurgaon, Haryana, India.

“This is our second year of sponsoring Avantha Masters and we continue to view this as an excellent platform for exposure and making acquaintance with potential customers. Golf is a sport which aptly personifies Volvo’s core values of quality, integrity and fair play," Paul de Voijs, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, said in a statement.

The first Indian player to take part in the tournament is Jeev Milkha Singh who will be playing against Andrew Dodt of Australia for the Avantha Crow.

“Golf as a profession has gained a great thrust in recent times. Today India is being represented by enviable players in the global arena. With continued endeavour, India is not far behind from becoming a mainstream golfing destination globally," Vojis added.
