Ford CEO Alan Mulally said he won’t be leaving the Detroit-based company to become CEO of the Microsoft Corporation, putting an end to recent rumors claiming the 68-year-old will replace Steve Ballmer.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Mulally confirmed he will remain with Ford through 2014, if not longer, adding that he wanted to end the Microsoft-related speculation that’s been floating around since September 2013.
Mulally’s statement was immediately backed by Ford spokesman Jay Cooney, who told The Detroit News that “Alan has made clear that he has no plans to do anything else than continue serving Ford. He remains absolutely focused on continuing to make progress on our One Ford plan.”
The former Boeing CEO is credited with getting Ford back on track during the financial crisis that hit the automotive industry in 2009. Under Mulally, Ford returned to profitability after the recession and was the only Detroit-based automobile manufacturer to avoid a government-funded bailout.
