The Ford B-Max compact MPV debuted (you can see our live photos here) today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with the vehicle receiving the “Best Mobile Innovation for Automotive, Transport or Utilities” award for the Emergency Assistance technology, which alerts local emergency services is an accident takes place.
The technology alerts local emergency services using the proper local language, relying on GPS coordinates from the car, after a crash. The system is integrated in Ford’s voice-activated SYNC in-car connectivity feature, which has made its European debut on the B-Max.
If one of the airbags, or the vehicle’s emergency fuel pump shut-off are activated, the vehicle makes an emergency call, using an introductory message, via the occupant’s Bluetooth connected mobile phone.
“Ford is delighted to see the potentially life-saving benefits of SYNC with Emergency Assistance recognised by international communications technology experts,” said Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe. “Emergency Assistance makes full use of mobile communications technology to deliver an extremely valuable service to Ford customers, free-of charge for the lifetime of their vehicle.”
