Elon Musk surprised everyone on Monday after a leaked email to employees showed that Tesla will have to deliver new vehicles with FSD Beta V12.3.1 (or later) installed and active. On Tuesday, people who took delivery of a Model S or Model X reported that their cars arrived with FSD Beta V12.3.2.
Tesla has been following a very precise testing routine for its software, especially Full Self-Driving software. New builds have been first tested by Tesla employees before reaching a wider insider group known as the Wave1. Only when these tests prove successful, and no nasty bugs are discovered will the new software builds be deployed to customer vehicles. Not all at once, but in waves, allowing Tesla to gather feedback while still making sure that potential bugs don't affect many people.
However, the established order was overthrown when Elon Musk urged Tesla employees to install and activate FSD Beta V12.3.1 on all new vehicles before delivery. A leaked email shows Musk asking the Tesla team to ensure everyone taking delivery of a new Tesla and even those who take their cars from service are given an FSD test ride with the latest version of the FSD Beta V12. One day later, Tesla reportedly shipped the Model S and Model X EVs with a software version that is not even cleared for wide release.
People taking delivery of a new Model S and Model X reported that the cars shipped with 2024.3.5 software, including FSD Beta V12.3.2. It was the first time FSD Beta V12.3 had been offered on a 2024 software build. This cleared the way for the latest (cutting-edge) FSD builds to be installed on new vehicles rocking a 2024.x software build. Tesla also decided to deliver new EVs with software that is not a factory version.
Tesla installs factory builds on new vehicles before delivery, usually with a version number ending in the hundreds. The latest factory build version is 2024.2.100 and cannot be updated to another 2024.2 build because of the lower version number. Tesla keeps new EVs on factory builds for a few weeks after delivery, supposedly to enable additional data gathering before allowing new updates to be installed.
However, the Model S and Model X delivered on Tuesday to customers did not have factory builds but fully-fledged 2024.3.5 software. This build only began testing with Tesla employees the same day, breaking the established testing chain. This could present several challenges, as unsuspecting customers might get their vehicles with untested software. Remember, this software version hasn't even reached the Wave1 tester group and is now installed on customers' vehicles.
We don't know whether this was a mistake made while trying to hastily satisfy Musk's demand or a change of the previous software testing practices. However, this certainly means that all current FSD Beta V11 testers will be moved very quickly to the V12.3.2 version. Although the update is offered exclusively in the US for now, it should reach Canada soon. Tesla has already cleared the hurdles and launched FSD Beta V12.3.1 north of the border.

We've received three DMs confirming that new @Tesla S/X vehicles include 2024.3.5 which enables FSD V12.3.2 and end-to-end Auto Park.
