As a Ford fan, it's really been annoying me to no end that I couldn't provide you with any tangible information about the car you see above. It's a test vehicle that emerged from Ford's test facility in Cologne.
Rumor had it it's a replacement for the Ka, but I just couldn't believe it, since it was clearly quite big and a five-door on top of that. During my last report, I said the automaker is "still sells the old Ford Ka with a facelift in South America and a similarly ancient car called the Figo in India," and it seems I was on the right track.
Reports from India state the next generation Ka will be a sort of global car, and will also replace the Indian market Figo. The new budget car that will slot under the Fiesta is currently testing in Europe and Brazil, and will be based on the current Figo's platform, itself a modified version of the Mk5 Fieta discontinued in 2008. However, the new Ka/Figo will be a little shorter and will use thinner steel to save weight.
Ford’s Head of Petrol Engine Development, Andrew Fraser, said the car is currently being tested under codename B562 and will be powered by the 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine. That's the non-turbo unit they recently derived from the EcoBoost unit. In the Fiesta, it currently offers 80 PS at 6,300rpm and 105 Nm at 4,100rpm.
There will also be a budget sedan based on this platform, which Ford plans to name the ‘Ka Max’, ‘Ka Sedan’ or ‘Figo’.
