When Chevrolet presented the sixth-generation Camaro to the world, some jaws dropped. When the veil came off the Camaro Convertible, even more jaws dropped. But with the ZL1, the peeps at General Motors are seriously pushing the envelope.
But like someone called Uncle Ben once said, with great power comes great responsibility. Regardless of the fact the force-fed small-block V8 engine delivers C7 Corvette Z06 goodies (650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft / 881 Nm), the all-new Camaro ZL1 is an ordeal for General Motors in terms of planning.

A document obtained by Camaro6 forum member kc6gen reads that Chevy ”is excited to announce ordering and allocation details for the 2017 Camaro ZL1.” Upon further reading, the document reveals that Phase 1 of production will see the manufacturer build only manual transmission-equipped coupes. This will be the case “through approximately mid-January 2017,” which means that the winter of 2016/2017 will be a long one for some customers.

Phase 2 of production will include the Camaro ZL1 in convertible form, as well as the 10-speed automatic transmission GM has co-developed with Ford. According to the cited document, Phase 2 is go “during the first quarter of 2017.” What that means is that first units of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible Automatic will be made as late as March 2017. And that’s a lot.

As things stand now, those who have put down deposits on the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will have to wait an estimated 6 to 8 months to take delivery of the coupe with a manual. Those who want the big blue sky above their heads and no clutch pedal are in for an 8 to 10-month wait at best.

Still, it’s worth to be patient. Here’s a teaser for you: 60 mph (96 km/h) in first gear for the 6-speed manual. Speaking of which, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZLl1 coupe with the stick shift will go on sale this fall from $62,135 sans destination and delivery and the expected gas guzzler tax.
