Ferrari Say Alonso Drive in Valencia Impossible

Ferrari strongly denied rumors that 2-time world champion Fernando Alonso might replace Felipe Massa for the Valencia round of this year's Formula One championship. The news came via a reporter from Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport, who revealed Ferrari's media boss Luca Colajanni said such a move would be impossible.

We have asked (Ferrari media boss Luca) Colajanni and he told us it is impossible,” confirmed the Italian newspaper's Andrea Cremonesi.

Following the one-race ban received by Renault for the upcoming European Grand Prix, it had surfaced in the media that the Spaniard might force his debut with the prancing horse from as early as Valencia. With the Enstone based team unable to place its drivers on the grid for the next race and Ferrari having one spare place in the F60 cockpit, such a move quickly made the headlines.

However, with contractual clashes between the two teams likely to appear if Alonso were to decide on that move, the Ferrari drive – as welcomed by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone as it may be – seems way out of reach for the 28-year old Spaniard.

With Renault still working on their appeal to the FIA ban, Ferrari are now caught in a dilemma of their own. With Massa unlikely to make the Ferrari cockpit at Valencia, CEO Luca di Montezemolo and team boss Stefano Domenicali have to choose a proper replacer in three weeks time.

The rumor about Michael Schumacher stepping in for the job in Spain got even more serious during the course of this morning, as it was reported that the German's long-time manager Willi Weber travelled from Budapest to Geneva to meet with the retired seven time world champion amid these return suggestions.

However, their meeting might also be related to Schumacher's ending contract with Ferrari, as his advisory deal with the Maranello based team is to end after this season's finale at Abu Dhabi.
