Ferrari Has to Be the Best From Now On - Alonso

Fernando Alonso went from 47 points down to leader Lewis Hamilton to only 20 behind new F1 pace setter Mark Webber in only a couple of races, while still in 5th place overall. This is obviously something that comes to strengthen the belief this year's championship is one of the most exciting in years, with 5 drivers having equal chances of winning the title with one third of the season still left to play.

And while many were laughing at Alonso's championship hopes two weekends ago, things went in the Spaniard's favor ever since. Talking to the Ferrari official website after his runner-up finish in Hungary, Alonso made it very clear that everyone starts from scratch after the summer break, and urged his team to become the best for the remainder of the 2010 campaign.

We are five drivers fighting for the championship so we are there. There are seven races to go now, so anything can happen. We all start from zero so we need to be the best in this last part of the championship if we want to win,” said Alonso.

I think we all start from zero. I think no one feels the leader of the championship and no one feels fifth in the championship. We all feel a group and it's time to deliver now,” added the 2-time world champion.

While obviously disappointed with the gap between Red Bull and Ferrari at the Hungaroring, Alonso is well aware of the fact that last weekend the Austrian team found themselves on a circuit that suited their car perfectly. That is unlikely to happen again too soon, especially since the upcoming two Grands Prix will be held on high-speed circuits – Spa and Monza.

That was a perfect circuit for Red Bull and we knew that and we need to remain calm. The championship is 19 races and the for the overall picture I think Ferrari has a competitive package. We are in a position in which we can take the lead of the championship if we win one race, so we have to remain calm,” added the Spaniard.
