Unbothered by the cold season, Ferrari released the racing incarnation of its LaFerrari, the FXX K, in Abu Dhabi yesterday. While pricing and production run details haven’t been announced yet, it’s pretty obvious that most mortals won’t be able to get up close and personal with one. Or is it? We’ve just come across the first Ferrari FXX K scale model.
Italian scale model producer BBR Models lists an 1:18 FXX K goodie on the “New Models” section of its website and while they haven’t provided a picture yet, the adjacent image, which comes from Facebook car aficionado Evren Milano, claims it shows the scale model.

While this is obviously much easier to grab than the rear thing, you shouldn’t be that relaxed if you actually want one - at least for now, BBR Models plans to produce 100 units with a display and 200 units without a display.

The tech details of the actual racecar

For those unfamiliar with the matter, the FXX K is the latest monster in Ferrari’s Corse Clienti customer racing program. While the LaFerrari prides itself with 963 hp, the motorsport version delivers 1050 hp. While 190 horses come from the electric motor, the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V12 has been massaged to deliver 860 hp. The Italian engineers masseurs installed new camshafts and a bespoke valve train, polished intake manifolds, as well as an exhaust system that says “no” to silencers.

Nonetheless, sheer power is not the key to this car, with Maranello focusing on the optimization of the HY-KERS system and the aerodynamic package. For instance, the HY-KERS offers four modes: Qualify (full performance for a limited number of laps), Long Run, Manual Boost and Fast Charge.

As for the aero stuff, there’s a downforce configuration that improves this with 50 percent compared to the LaFerrari, while the low drag setup still sees the downforce climb by 30 percent compared to the street car.

By the way, you shouldn’t be all that upset about not being able to gran an FXX K. After all, Prancing Horse customers never actually get to fully own these things. While Maranello hasn’t disclosed this particular info about the FXX, it is known that the Prancing Horse handles the vehicles taking part in its customer racing program, while clients are flown to various motorsport events where they get to drive the racers, but the story ends there.
