Ferrari Enzo Successor Expected to Be a Hybrid

A new day, a new piece of information connected to a hybrid vehicle development coming from the Prancing Horse.

The company debuted the hybrid pathway at this year’s Geneva Auto Show, when it introduced the HY-KERS experimental vehicle.

The supercar producer’s chairman, Luca di Montezemolo has told autoweek that the company is currently working to develop a successor for the Enzo. He explained that this will come with top performance and offer a fuel consumption reduction at the same time. This means that the hypercar will probably be included in the hybrid vehicles category. The vehicle is expected to be released in 2012.

That car will incorporate the state of the art of our knowledge in terms of increasing performances while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. It will then influence all Ferraris that appear after it,” the executive told the aforementioned source.

The vehicle is expected to incorporate the same electric unit introduced on the HY-KERS prototype. This means that it will use an electric unit that tips the scales at 40 kg (the entire electric system weighs under 100 kg) and delivers over 100 hp. The unit is also used as a Kinetic Energy Recovery System, converting the energy resulted from braking into electricity that is stored in the system’s lithium-ion battery pack.

Montezemolo offered the information while announcing that he will not leave Ferrari to join the Italian Government. He explained that he will stay at the helm long enough to develop the cars belonging to the next product cycle.
